Silvera is partnering with Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) and CBI Health to pilot 24/7 Unscheduled Home Care at Aspen Commons. This initiative is intended to provide stability and peace of mind for residents, ensuring home care is available whenever they need it. This pilot program started on July 1, 2026.
What does this mean for residents?
- This program is intended for all residents.
- Scheduled and unscheduled personal care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from Health Care Aides.
- These services are free, optional, and do not affect the resident’s tenancy or independence.
In Alberta, seniors are sometimes forced to leave their supportive living residences due to a lack of basic assistance with daily care, resulting in unnecessary hospital stays and premature transitions to higher care facilities. Unscheduled home care is designed to prevent this from occurring.

Assisted Living Alberta recently agreed to support the pilot project, which is initially being offered in one building through CBI Health. This incredible community care solution brings together seniors housing, continuing care, and emergency services to alleviate system pressures.
The traditional home care model often leaves seniors without assistance outside of the standard hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Silvera has been advocating for 24/7 home care for supportive living residents with unscheduled needs, such as help with incontinence products, toilet assistance, falls, or changing into bedclothes after 9 p.m.
“Unscheduled 24/7 home care aims to prevent falls by ensuring care staff is around to help residents with basic daily activities that can’t be easily scheduled,” says Olivia Chubey, Chief Operations Officer and Executive VP of Service Innovation.
“Having basic care needs managed by Health Care Aides allows residents to age in place longer as opposed to moving to a higher level of care by default. Higher level of care options are more costly for the health system because they offer round-the-clock nursing services, many of which our residents do not yet need.”
Ongoing advocacy
Silvera’s advocacy on behalf of seniors extends beyond this program. Together with other lodge operators, Silvera has collaborated with academic partners to research innovative models of care.

Resident feedback has been an important part of this research. “We asked residents what is missing for them to remain living with Silvera, and they told us that basic help, such as unscheduled home care, would help them stay in their homes longer,” says Olivia.
“We are committed to being preventative instead of reactive in terms of resident supports. These care models are shown to have real, lasting value, keeping residents in their homes as long as possible. It takes a village to create a system change, which would not be possible without our care and funding partners.”
