Silvera Athletes, Artists and Scholars enjoy a variety of Life, Learning and Leisure activities

20 June 2023

Life is like riding a bicycle – to keep your balance, you must keep moving.

That’s what Silvera’s Life, Learning and Leisure program is all about…finding ways to keep moving forward. And our partners help us keep our momentum!

Silvera Athletes join Smile parade in Bridgeland

On Monday, June 5 a special parade took place in our Bridgeland community to kick-off Seniors’ Week. The Smile Parade organized by Cycling Without Age brought together volunteers and residents to take a lovely morning bike ride along the river. Smiles in abundance on the faces of our volunteers and residents!

If you call Silvera home, and bike riding isn’t your cup-of-tea – no worries. Our Life, Learning and Leisure program has three streams – Silvera Athletes, Silvera Artists and Silvera Scholars.

Silvera Scholars treated to a trip to the Zoo thanks to ENMAX

Our Silvera Scholars had a special visit to the Calgary Zoo June 7 hosted by our friends at ENMAX. Learning about the fury and scaly creatures at the zoo is a perfect way to be grounded in nature, spark curiosity and have some fun. Did you know there are over 1,000 animals and 272 species at the Calgary Zoo!

Silvera Artists paint garden rocks

Our Silvera Artists, who chose to forgo the trip to the Zoo, spent time creating beautiful garden rocks. Painting helps with exercise and fine motor skills. It increases blood flow within the body, causing an enhancement in dexterity in the hands, fingers, and wrists. And I bet you thought it was just so the Silvera gardens looked pretty!

The best part about all of this is…these kinds of activities happen every week at Silvera, not just during Seniors’ Week!

Most importantly, we can’t make a difference in the lives of our residents without our community partners. At Silvera we look for partners who are genuine, committed, eager to address the needs of our residents and increase the capacity of both Silvera and themselves. Our partners come in all shapes and sizes – from a grass roots volunteer driven group like Cycling Without Age to corporate partners like ENMAX and their employees – and everyone in between!

We are thrilled to pause and reflect on the many great people who help our residents live their best life!
