National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 30, is the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the lost children and survivors of Indian Residential Schools, their families and communities. It is a way for us all to acknowledge the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools.

Silvera employees will gather within our communities to learn about and reflect upon the history of Canada and the treatment of Indigenous peoples.

Together, we will experience a series of speakers via video to further our own efforts in learning about Canada’s history and the Indigenous peoples alongside us. Following the presentation, which will last about one hour, we will move outdoors for a short activity at each community and the Admin office.

Here we grow again! Renovations and new construction at Silvera

Our Capital Development team is working hard to create beautiful new communities for current and future residents to call home. Here’s an update on Silvera’s projects currently in development.

Vista Residence is a former all-suites hotel in Calgary’s northeast community of Horizon that Silvera is transforming into an independent living seniors’ apartment building. It will feature 120 one- and two-bedroom apartments, including kitchens with fridge, cooktop (2-bedroom apartments also include an oven), convection microwave and dishwasher. The building features shared laundry facilities, parking and an on-site sports court. The renovations are now in the final stages and Vista Residence is scheduled to open near the end 2021.

Gilchrist Community is a full services building located in the northeast. The addition of this new building will create our new Silvera in Pineridge campus, which includes Gilchrist Manor and Gilchrist Gardens. Together these buildings will uniquely support residents as they age in place, while remaining in a single location. This new building features 115 apartments, multipurpose rooms, two dining rooms, a hair salon, corner store, grab-and-go bistro, multiple outdoor balconies, patios, and a heated underground parkade. Building began in 2018. Interiors are currently being constructed and exterior paving is nearly completed. Gilchrist Community is scheduled to open in late Winter/Spring of 2022.

Westview Residence West is a new seniors independent living apartment building currently under construction adjacent to Silvera’s Westview Community. The building is in the southwest Calgary community of Glamorgan. Along with newly-renovated Westview Community and soon-to-be-built Westview Residence East, Westview Residence West (formerly called Building 3000) will round out the trio of buildings being called Silvera in Glamorgan.

The new building includes 82 one- and two-bedroom apartments, common areas for residents, bike and scooter storage, a heated underground parkade, an outdoor patio, and a courtyard. The building’s exterior is nearly complete, and work is progressing on the interior. Westview Residence West is scheduled for opening early in 2022.

Show your gratitude with employee thank you cards

Do you work with someone who does an exceptional job and deserves a little extra recognition? Why not send them a thank you card!

These thank you cards are a fun way to appreciate the people you work with, particularly when you see them embody Silvera’s purpose and values in the work they do. This helps us all be part of a high performing organization.

Each community and the Admin office has a supply of cards at Reception. Simply fill out and deliver the thank you card to your colleague. If you wish, you may also send an email message (or a copy of the inside of the card) to both your supervisor and [email protected] to let them know who you thanked, and why.
