Inside Silvera, issue 16

There’s still time to complete the employee engagement survey

This short survey is an opportunity to provide feedback to your supervisor and Silvera’s management team. Employees who haven’t yet completed the employee survey can do so by the end of day on December 22, 2021.

Please take 10-15 minutes to complete the survey through the link below. As always, all employee feedback will be confidential (Human Resources will only report general trends to management without any comments that identify specific individuals to their community).

Employees honoured with Service Awards

Each year, Silvera presents eleven Service of Excellence Awards and one Randy Adrian Memorial Award to some outstanding employees. These recipients have gone above and beyond to help Silvera residents live their best lives and support their coworkers in 2021.

“I believe it is a great honour to receive these awards,” says Michael Stuart, Chief Human Resources Officer. “Our winners should be very proud of their accomplishments with both their colleagues in community as well as the residents, whom I know value the work you do with them every day.”

Wrapping up Stockings for Seniors

Christmas can be a lonely time for some Silvera residents. That’s why our Stockings for Seniors campaign is so important – it’s a way to let each of them know they are not forgotten over the holidays.

This week, we are busy sorting donations and preparing stockings for delivery to residents on Christmas Eve. But we couldn’t do it without a lot of help! Thank you to all employees who donated to the annual Stockings for Seniors campaign and spread the word to family, friends and the Calgary community. We also had the assistance of the Calgary Canucks Junior A hockey team, who collected stockings at their home games.

Together we’re bringing a little Christmas cheer to residents!

Preparing for health and safety Audits

A health and safety program helps ensure everyone stays safe while working at Silvera. A COR Audit is a measure of how well we uphold our health and safety standards and practices. As part of the audit process, interviews with a random selection of employees in Silvera communities can happen at a moment’s notice.

A recently completed COR Audit has shown many of our employees don’t understand how to answer the questions in these audit interviews. This has prompted the Health & Safety team to create a goal for Silvera: be audit-ready every day.

To ensure employees understand the audit questions and how to answer them in terms of their role at Silvera, there will be a series of lunch and learn events, puzzles and quizzes organized in the New Year.

“By improving all employees’ health and safety awareness and always being audit-ready,” explains Jonathan Hamon, Health and Safety Program Lead, “we will strengthen the culture of safety at Silvera, ensuring we stay a safe and healthy place to work.”

It’s move-in time at our newest community!

We’re excited to extend a warm welcome to the first residents to call Vista home. The building’s first residents moved in Dec. 1.

Vista Apartments is a former all-suites hotel in Calgary’s northeast community of Horizon that Silvera has transformed into a beautiful apartment building for independent seniors. Residents in this building will enjoy in-suite kitchens, parking, shared laundry space and even a sports court.

More residents are set to move into Vista in early January.

We’ve been getting into the holiday spirit!

We can’t help but feel the spirit of the season at Silvera this week!

Residents and employees have been busy spreading holiday cheer in our communities by decorating with trees and greenery, bows, baubles and Christmas villages, and decorating holiday cookies. We even had the help of ENMAX employees with their bucket trucks to install beautiful outdoor lights at many of our communities for all of us and our neighbours to enjoy.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season!
