It’s astounding but not a surprise. Today, roughly 1 in 10 people in Alberta is 65 or older. Twenty-five years from now it will be 1 in 5.
Alberta needs to build more affordable housing for seniors. Silvera can be counted on as a stable organization that is well positioned to make Calgary’s growing need for additional safe and affordable housing and service for seniors. Working with our government partners, funders, volunteers and employees we will do this.
In mid-2016, we opened Phase 1 of Gilchrist Gardens – an independent living community in the northeast quadrant of Calgary. Phase 2 is a supportive living community with more services. Integration of the communities will support seniors being able to age in place. We anticipate starting construction in late 2017.
The Jacques site remains an important asset and forms part of development portfolio. Our next assessment will be a preliminary site servicing study. Until that work and additional analysis is completed, the development is on hold.
Silvera at Glamorgan
We are in the early stages of planning our new project in southwest Calgary – Silvera at Glamorgan. The development will be located adjacent to our existing Westview community, further enhancing the housing options we will offer.
Silvera’s development will be built in phases. It is being designed to truly integrate with the Glamorgan neighbourhood including offering some amenities for all of it’s residents.
In 2016, we began site preparing for the project. Silvera is keeping the Glamorgan community aware of evolving plans, including development of the land use application expected to be filed in fall 2017. We have appreciated a continuing support for the project from our neighbours in the Glamorgan neighbourhood.
